KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI continues its winning streak for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, with strong buying support from heavyweight stocks. This positive momentum has driven the benchmark index to close up 6.6 points, or 0.47%, reaching 1,398.06. Throughout the day, it fluctuated between 1,400.05 and 1,389.94.
The market breadth was favorable, as gainers outnumbered losers with a ratio of 490-to-347 stocks. Traded volumes amounted to 2.81 billion shares valued at RM1.73 billion.
Out of the 30 FBM KLCI constituents, 23 stocks experienced gains, while only three declined and four traded flat.
The top gainers on Bursa Malaysia were Dutch Lady and Hextar Technologies, rising 96 sen and 62 sen respectively to RM21.30 and RM26.94. Ajinomoto added 36 sen to RM15.36, Shangri-La rose 30 sen to RM2.59, and Quality Concrete gained 30 sen to 90 sen.
However, Heineken fell 48 sen to RM25.50, Kuala Lumpur Kepong shed 20 sen to RM22.74, Panasonic Manufacturing eased 20 sen to RM20, and Carlsberg lost 18 sen to RM20.20.
As for currency markets, the ringgit stood at 4.6532, experiencing a 0.12% increase against the US dollar.
In terms of oil prices, US light crude oil rose 28 cents to US$75.11 per barrel, while Brent added 25 cents to reach US$79.65 per barrel.
In other regional markets, Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 0.81%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 1.08%, South Korea’s Kospi closed up 0.48%, and China’s Shanghai Composite Index eased 0.78%.
