KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim revealed that he recently had a conversation with billionaire Elon Musk, where they discussed Tesla’s investment in Malaysia and SpaceX’s satellite communications service. In a statement, Anwar expressed his excitement about the company’s interest in investing in Malaysia and Musk’s willingness to visit the country.
Earlier this year, Malaysia granted approval for Tesla, the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, to import battery-operated EVs into the country. The trade ministry also announced that Tesla plans to establish an office, showrooms, and service centers in Malaysia, as well as a network of charging stations for its cars.
Anwar confirmed that Tesla’s operations in Malaysia are set to commence within this year. Moreover, during the conversation with Musk, they also addressed Starlink, the satellite communications service initiated by Musk’s SpaceX company.
“I welcome the company’s interest and decision to invest in Malaysia, and Elon Musk’s willingness to come to Malaysia,” Anwar said in a statement.
The discussion regarding Tesla’s investment and the establishment of Starlink presents promising opportunities for Malaysia’s automotive industry and satellite communications sector.
