A few months ago, local actress Emma Maembong gave birth to a healthy baby boy Shakila Ryan Shah, with her husband Muhammad Shazli Azhar. The actress has always been known to share parts of her daily life with her fans online but lately, she hasn’t been active on social media as she was before.
One would think it’s because she was busy taking care of her two children or going back to work but that’s not the main reason. Here’s her explanation:
For those who may not be aware, it’s tradition for mothers to go through a confinement period after giving birth to allow their body to rest and recover from delivering the baby. However, Emma had netizens feeling concerned for her health as she was not properly resting; based on her regular IG feed and Stories posts.
After believing that she was causing people to worry, the mother-of-two decided to spend less time posting on social media. “I had no intention for some of the things I’ve posted to go viral. If posting my daily activities causes a lot of stress to people then I won’t do it anymore,” the “Aku Pilih Bahagia” star told a local news outlet. “I’m not doing things to go viral.”
She also added, “That’s the reason I’m not as active on social media as I was before. I don’t want to disturb anyone’s peace of mind cause every time I post, I’d get messages asking why was I working when I have a newborn.” Despite all the comments and messages she received, the 31-year-old isn’t insulted as she believes fans are just showing how much they care for her.
So far, Emma has kept her promise in slowing down her social media activities to avoid any unnecessary negative attention. The celeb isn’t the only one to experience something like this as YouTuber Maryam also received similar backlash from a certain netizen who criticised the Korean influencer for not following the Malay confinement period tradition.
