It seems that the Coldplay fever has yet to die down. Especially since the British band recently announced six shows in the neighbouring country, Singapore – much to the dismay of Malaysian fans. However, with all the buzz comes those who want to capitalise on it.
One of them is Indonesian actor Aldi Taher who announced a tribute concert for the band, cheekily titled “Forplay – Tribute to Coldplay”. The tribute concert will be held on 3rd July at Bengkel Space in Jakarta, and the actor will reportedly perform ten songs from the award-winning band’s discography. Tickets went on sale to the public on 13th June and sold out almost instantly.
Amazingly, even the VIP tickets, which cost more than the highest tier ticket for Coldplay’s concert, were sold out. For comparison, VIP tickets for the tribute concert cost Rp100 million (RM31,166.38) while the highest tier for Coldplay’s concert cost Rp11 million (RM3428.30). The price was per table, which seats 15 people, but it’s still a hefty price.
The actor reportedly decided to hold the tribute concert because he is a fan of Coldplay and is famous for covering their songs on his social media. The tribute concert is also for a noble cause, with all proceeds from ticket sales donated to a cancer charity. Aldi himself is a cancer survivor, having suffered from lymph node cancer in 2016.
Knowing it’s for charity, we’re sure that Coldplay will be honoured by Aldi’s tribute concert.
