Hong Kong biggest airlines, Cathay Pacific, has always upheld a good reputation for their services. However, things took a dip after one of their cabin crews was exposed for discriminating a non-English speaking traveler. A video recording capturing the voice of one of the airlines’ flight attendant saying, “If you cannot say blanket in English, you cannot have it,” followed by what heard to be mocking laughter was released and caused a lot of controversies.
Following the discrimination scandal, Chinese actress Huang Lu (黃璐) also shared an experience of hers when she flew with Cathay Pacific airlines last month. She wrote up a long story and posted it on her Weibo, describing the event that happened during her flight.
From the post, Huang Lu said that one of Cathay Pacific’s staff had a really bad attitude when she was checking in for her flight to Xi’an on the 27th last month. In the heat of the moment, the actress took her purse out and forget where she left it. When her name was called before boarding, she then only realised that she lost her purse which held her important documents and bank cards.
The staff at the boarding zone told her that the plane would not wait for her and she needs to make a choice on whether she was going back to get her purse. “I checked and there’s only one direct flight on that day, and if I flew to Xi’an the day after, then I won’t be able to make it to the rehearsals. Moreover, there’s only a day of rehearsals for the shoot in Xi’an. So, I decided that I would give up on my purse and figure out a solution once I board the plane.”
On the plane, Huang Lu was treated with indifference by the cabin crew when she told them her situation and asked them nicely whether they could contact the staff handling the ground work to get her purse back. What’s worse is they also did not give her the lost and found list she has been requesting.
After all that, the actress decided to look for another flight attendant. On the way over, she overheard a cabin crew complaining in English, “A Taiwanese male flight attendant said that every time he enter Mainland China, the customs are always upset about his passport.” The flight attendant then told her to return to her seat when she wanted to ask about her purse.
Upon reaching Xi’an customs, Huang Lu was thankful that she had her ID card on her. The staff at the customs were kind and professional, the actress pointed out, adding that she was almost moved to tears. The staff then told her to rest assured as they will be flying her purse in a couple of days. Once she was told this, the actress was instantly relieved.
