Last month, we reported on the tragic death of an influencer from South Korea known as Ahyeong (아영). According to reports, she was found dead while on vacation in Cambodia. Her body was reportedly dumped in a pond in a village near Phnom Penh, the country’s capital.
Following that, the police had arrested a Chinese couple. It was initially reported that Ahyeong died after receiving an injection at their hospital. Up to this day, the main cause of her death remains a mystery. Almost a month after the news broke out, the case was covered on SBS’ “Want to Know the Truth”.
The current affairs programme featured exclusive interviews with some experts and local Cambodian police and also with the male suspect in this case. Shockingly, it was revealed that the late broadcasting jockey may have been sexually assaulted! According to news reports, Ahyeong’s body was wrapped in a red cloth and was dumped in a pond.
A Cambodian police officer who was in charge of the case said, “The cause of death appears to be asphyxiation, suspected to be caused by drug side effects. The body showed no signs of physical trauma or evidence of drugs upon examination,” a police official stated. However, when the body was discovered, it was found without her upper undergarment, and the lower undergarment was worn backwards, raising suspicions of sexual assault.
The Chinese couple, who are being investigated in connection with the incident, also told the police that the victim had an epileptic seizure and died in the clinic. They also admitted to driving the body to the pond and abandoning it. The husband was also interviewed by the reporters in regards to the incident. “She requested me to give her an injection, but I refrained from doing so. Moreover, there were already injection marks on her body prior to that,” he asserted.
The man further revealed that Ahyeong fell asleep afterwards. And when he went to check on her condition, he noticed that she was foaming at the mouth and unconscious. “I immediately provided first aid and administered oxygen, but unfortunately, she passed away,” he told the interviewer. He later confessed, “I admit to abandoning the body because I was panicked, scared, and had no money at that time. So, I’m deserved to be sentenced, but my wife did not know anything”.
It was also speculated that the couple had been operating the hospital illegally by obtaining a medical license from a third party without proper credentials, and they may have abandoned the body out of fear of this being exposed.
