Social anxiety is a common mental health condition which affects everyone. Someone who is socially anxious will feel extreme fear when interacting or talking to strangers, so they tend to avoid any social settings. Guess what? Even some big stars suffer from it too.
HK actor Tony Leung (梁家辉) has been dealing with anxiety given his constant appearances on the big screen. Recently, a netizen reposted an old interview video of his wife, Carina Lau (劉嘉玲), talking about this disorder. Turns out, the actor dislikes interacting with strangers to the point where he would buy 6 seats for himself whenever he visits a cinema.
According to Carina, her husband will normally choose to watch a movie by himself in the mornings to avoid large crowds. “He would go to the cinemas by himself early in the morning. So, if you’re catching a movie in Hong Kong at around 10am, you might see him there,” she revealed. “He would then buy six seats but only sit in one of them, probably because he’s afraid that he will be disturbed by other people.”
Seeing the interview that resurfaced, netizens were amused by the well-loved actor’s habit. Some even commented that the celebrity couple make a really interesting pair, where the husband is socially anxious while the wife is a social butterfly.
Shortly after the post went viral on Weibo, comments flooded the post with some relating to Tony. One netizen even made a diagram to get an idea of him buying 6 seats for himself.
- “So I would say it’s kind of impossible for him to not look for Carina (when he’s out), he definitely can’t go a day without his wife.”
- “I also want to be like that, but I do not have the money to buy six seats.”
- “I saw this one comment from a netizen: Why didn’t he just buy 9 seats instead, being surrounded by all sides seem more ‘safe’, doesn’t it?”
- “In Tony’s heart, he must’ve been thinking: There’s a reason why I like Yihong Duan (Chinese actor). If I’m with him, I wouldn’t look so socially awkward compared to him.”
