Ebit Lew used to be one of Malaysia’s beloved preachers but in recent months, he has faced tons of controversy and criticism. After being exposed for staging a video with a “homeless” person, TV host Roslan Shah is now calling the preacher out for cancelling an event appearance at the 11th hour.
The TV personality revealed through Instagram that the uztaz cancelled just two days before he is set to attend an event in Singapore to give a talk on marriage. In several IG Stories, the 51-year-old shared his conversations with the preacher’s management regarding the event. Apparently, he made a last-minute decision to perform his Hajj Pilgrimage and is currently in Mecca.
As the one responsible for the guests, Roslan had to relay the news to the event organiser, who was understandably angry by the sudden cancellation. The emcee revealed that the cancellation caused almost RM35,000 in loss, including accommodation, advertising, and event hall rental. He is now requesting the preacher to pay for the damages caused.
Meanwhile, the ustaz is also on trial for 11 charges of sexual harassment. There are several developments in the case, including claims that the preacher had accessed multiple pornographic websites through his phone.
A witness in the trial said she found a history of pornographic websites accessed from a mobile phone which she had analysed. The preacher had also allegedly browsed Wikipedia and searched topics including “sexual harassment”, “sexual harassment laws in Malaysia” and “jail risk from obscene jokes.”
The trial will resume and the preacher has yet to comment on the cancellation – but no doubt the two have negatively affected his image.
