It takes efforts from both sides in order to make a marriage work, even when it’s not always 50/50. Sadly, there have been many cases where the husband allegedly refuse to provide alimony or even neglect their responsibilities as a spouse. Celebrity medical doctor, Dr. Say Shazril recently shared his thoughts on the matter.

The influencer posted a photo of him with his wife Dr. Azura along with 2 screenshots of text conversations on his Instagram feed; 1 screenshot of a conversation between a wife and a husband, and 1 screenshot from a netizen asking for his opinions on stingy husbands.

The first screenshot showed how a man complained to his wife about having spent the RM200 he gave her and even asked for proof of what exactly she bought with the money. The wife listed down all the items she purchased along with the prices they cost to prove that RM200 simply isn’t enough for necessities. She even invited him to shop for groceries together with her to see the costs for himself.

The second screenshot was a message from a netizen asking for the public figure’s opinion on a stingy husband who refuses to give alimony to his wife on the grounds that she’s also working. She also said that there are some husbands who will ask for receipts as proof to ensure their wives do not overspend.

The father-of-two was furious after seeing the two posts and offered his advice to husbands all around. “For men who keep asking for receipts as proof, do you not trust your wives? Believe me, she’s not going to spend anything for herself if you’re that stingy,” he wrote. The celeb added that husbands should never neglect their duty of giving alimony even if they have a low income.

“If your wife earns more, and you can’t provide financial support then compensate by doing more housework. Don’t be lazy and shade your wife just because she earns more money! I feel so ashamed knowing that there are men like these out there,” said Dr. Say. The medical practitioner ended his post by advising men to stay single if they’re not ready to carry out the responsibilities of a husband.

Netizens seemed to agree with his statement and so do we. If you’re not ready to make sacrifices in your marriage, then perhaps reconsider the choice of settling down. What do you think?
