To this day, driving under the influence still remains one of the biggest concerns around the world. Even though there are serious consequences when one is caught drinking and driving, many lives are still taken yearly because of drunk drivers.
Korean actress, Jin Ye-Sol (진예솔), was arrested and put under investigation for driving under the influence of alcohol not long ago. A day after (13th June 2023) she was charged, and she issued an apology for her actions.
On 12th June 2023, reports claimed Ye-Sol hit the guardrail twice while driving on the Olympic Boulevard highway toward Hanam. A witness reported her after suspecting her of drunk driving. The Korean celeb was then caught by the police asleep at her wheels while waiting for the signal. Her breathalyzer test results were high enough to warrant a suspended license.
After the incident, Ye-Sol’s agency admitted to the incident and issued an apology. They said, “There is no excuse for drunk driving and for Jin Ye Sol’s behaviour, and Jin Ye Sol and her agency will self-reflect with a deep sense of responsibility. We are sorry to everyone and apologize once again for causing controversy.”
Following her agency’s statement, the actress also apologised personally on her Instagram in the form of a handwritten letter. The letter reads, “Hello, this is Jin Ye Sol. Firstly, I want to sincerely apologise for delivering such unfortunate news. I should have taken full responsibility for my actions and made more careful judgments as a public figure, but I made a grave mistake due to a momentary lapse in judgment. I sincerely apologise to everyone who supports me. From now on, I will self-reflect. I am deeply sorry and ashamed. Once again, I bow my head in apology.”
Ye-Sol’s apology letter was received with a lot of criticisms. Although one can feel her regret through it, many netizens condemned her and commented that innocent lives could have been hurt or even taken because of her actions. No amount of apologies would have been able to amend the potential accidents caused by someone driving under the influence.
