It’s been almost 3 years since Elizabeth Tan, fondly known as Lizzy, married her husband Siew Jim. The couple tied the knot back in March 2021 and hoped to have children of their own one day.

The singer previously shared plans of getting pregnant but they were postponed until the end of last year due to her busy schedule. Sadly, the couple’s parenthood plans had to be put on hold once more. Here’s why:

In a recent interview with local media, Elizabeth Tan revealed that she still hopes to have children of her own one day but is now in a dilemma as she’s worried that her pregnancy will affect her career. The “Escape” star admitted that she’s having a hard time choosing between her dreams of becoming a mother or her career in the entertainment industry.

“Honestly, I would love to be a mother one day. I’m already 30 and I want to give grandchildren to my aging mother but I have to think about work as well. If I were to get pregnant now, I’ll have to not work for a year,” she told the media. The “Payung” songstress shared that she’s concerned that being a mother would hinder her career growth, especially as a singer.

“I’ve seen it all before. A lot of singers were at the peak of their career but everything slowed down once they got married and had children,” said the recording artist. A decrease in job offers in the industry also led Lizzy to be concerned about finance as she’s currently financially supporting everyone in her family.

The singer revealed that her husband doesn’t make much as a houseman (trainee doctor) in comparison to her so she’s been the one to cover everyone’s expenses and necessities. She said, “I pay for everything. Honestly, I don’t want to disappoint anyone and there is a lot of pressure but I do want to have kids one day.”

As the breadwinner of the family, we can understand why she has a lot to consider before she can make any decision that could also affect her entire family. Whatever the case, we hope that Lizzy’s dreams of becoming a mother would one day come true.
