Apart from the Coldplay concert that will take place at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil this November, fans have also been looking forward to American singer-songwriter Lauv’s concert at Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre this September.
However, it seems that the KL show will not happen as it was announced through email that the concert has been cancelled. Over the weekend, Lauv fans, who purchased tickets to watch his 2-date “The Between Albums Tour” live in KL, received emails from LiveNation, the concert organiser, announcing the concert has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.
“Refunds will be issued to ticket holders. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this cancellation may have caused and appreciate your understanding,” the organiser wrote. The company has yet to officially announce the cancellation on their social media nor have they specified the exact reason(s) which led many to believe that it was because of the infamous The 1975 incident at Good Vibes Festival 2 weekends ago. While this may be plausible and could partially be why, there’s another thing that happened that netizens believe could also possibly contribute to the artist no longer being able to perform in Malaysia.
Last month, Lauv seemingly came out as bisexual in a TikTok post saying, “When you’re dating a girl but you’re also a little bit into men”, and earlier last week, the “Never Not” singer posted a YouTube video talking about his sexuality in more detail. As many of you may know, Malaysia has a strict LGBTQ+ law and has forbidden queer artists from performing in the country in the past, more so now after what happened at this year’s Good Vibes Festival.
Fans were obviously upset by the news and expressed their concerns regarding the upcoming highly-anticipated Coldplay concert that will take place later this year. Is the UK band safe or will they also face a possible cancellation now that rules and regulations are getting stricter? Only time will tell.
