Popular Burmese model Paing Takhon (ပိုင်တံခွန်) once had the eyes of the world trained on him after his looks garnered much attention from the internet. However, he disappeared from the public eye after he was arrested by the Myanmar military for speaking out against the coup in 2021.
Despite having an influence in the local and international sphere, Paing Takhon was not spared the military’s wrath. Thankfully, he was released in early March 2022 and since then, has been living a fulfilling life. However, the model has made it clear that the he has not forgotten their actions.
Paing Takhon was seemingly given all the right cards in life. Born into a family of bankers and being fairly well-off, he’s always been taken care of. His handsome features are also a blessing, winning him the hearts of fans globally. In fact, he once beat out Chris Hemsworth and BTS’s Kim Taehyung (aka V) for the top spot in TC Chandler’s “The 100 Most Handsome Faces of 2021” competition.
However, he isn’t all looks. Paing knows to pull his own weight, and there is a golden heart to match his ‘golden’ exterior as well. In 2019, the Myanmar Times listed him in their “Top 10 Actors” and he was appointed to be an ASEAN Economic Community ambassador as well as Myanmar’s tourism ambassador to Thailand.
Of course, many remember his bravery for protesting against Myanmar’s military during their coup. After his arrest, Paing was initially sentenced to three years of jail with hard labour. However, he was released early March last year. Reports claims he was granted amnesty to garner a better reputation for the country.
Paing restarted his socials after being imprisoned, notably wiping everything that had existed before then. He then continued sharing his daily life with netizens, even starting a YouTube channel. He’s been spotted looking after animals, doing charity work and meeting people. But, all his posts are marked with a black heart emoji, leading many to believe it a form of silent protest.
Well, Paing Takhon certainly looks happier and healthier since then. He’s also not lost his charm which endeared so many to him. We hope he continues to stay that way as he finds his way through life.
