Falling in love and breaking up are part and parcel of relationships. Sometimes, the person you thought could be your ‘forever’ might turn out to not be the right one for you, or maybe the both of you have grown to want or need different things.
Yesterday (4th July 2023), Taiwanese singer Kenji Wu (吴克群) confirmed that him and actress Katie Chen (陈语安) have ended their relationship. The two of them have been together for 5 years and although they are 13 years apart in age, they have accompanied each other throughout ups and downs.
The singer attended a press conference yesterday to promote his newly-released song, “Time Machine (時光機)”. When asked about his current relationship status, he replied honestly, “We’ve always wanted to keep it (our relationship) lowkey. We actually broke up during Chinese New Year!”
The two have been through a lot during their courtship. Years ago when Kenji’s mother passed away, Katie was there comforting and staying by his time during his lowest. To convey his love for her, the singer even wrote the song “Abstract (抽像)” and dedicated it to her.
As for the reason behind their breakup, Kenji explained that after recording the Chinese singing reality TV show “Call Me by Fire”, they have been seeing each other less and less. “We are now the most ‘okay’ of friends in the world. We still keep in contact, so everything is alright. At least our relationship with each other right now is very comfortable, as we still share updates every now and then.”
The 43-year-old shared that he still believes in love, but will only enter into a relationship if he meets the right one. “I’m not that young anymore, it’s not easy to meet someone that is suitable for me.” Although it is sad to hear that Kenji and Katie’s relationship didn’t work out, we still wish the both of them the best in finding a love.
