If you’re stopped or approached by the authorities, it’s always advisable to cooperate with them while also knowing your rights to avoid any misunderstandings or further conflict. However, sometimes these conflicts can be misinterpreted by netizens if the incident goes viral without the full context.
A few days ago, a video circulated on social media showing a Malaysian model lashing out at police officers when she was being fined for traffic violations. The influencer then spoke out about the incident in a TikTok video and here’s what she had to say:
@gayathrimoorthiofficial4 I think we have our human rights…#gayathrimoorthi
For context, Malaysian model and actress Gayathri Moorthi was fined by local authorities after she was caught driving without a seatbelt while also using her phone at Jalan Tun Sambanthan, Brickfields.
It was reported that during the confrontation, the public figure cursed at the police officers while also recording the incident on her phone.
A video of the incident, filmed by a passerby, went viral and the model received tons of backlash from netizens.
In a statement video posted on TikTok, she explained that her case is still being investigated by police and that she would pay her summons if there are any. The influencer then claimed that the viral video did not show the entire confrontation.
She alleged that the officers in the video provoked and disrespected her so she was simply defending herself.
Gayathri also added that she believed that the viral post may be a personal attack on her as the incident happened 4 days prior to the video being posted on social media.
@gayathrimoorthiofficial4 harap media&netizenz paham .jangan sebarkan berita palsu… #gayathrimoorthi
The founder of Top 5 Model posted a follow-up video urging everyone to stop spreading false information and further insisted that she will pay for the consequences of her actions that day.
At the time of writing, there has been no update from both Gayathri or the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) regarding her case.
Below is the video of her confrontation with the alleged rude police officers:
