You may know Baby Shima as a singer and dancer, but soon, you may need to start referring to her by another title – politician. That’s because the dangdut singer announced that she will compete in the upcoming state elections.
Announced through her Instagram yesterday (Monday, 24th July), the dangdut singer said she will contest in the upcoming state elections to serve and defend citizens. In her video, she also urged the public, especially the youth, to vote for her.
In an interview with local media, the singer shared more details about her campaign and the reasoning behind her choice. The 30-year-old said that she will be competing as an independent candidate but did not mention the state or constituency she’s eyeing for. She added that more information will be shared soon, including her manifesto.
When asked about the public’s reaction, the controversial celeb said she’s aware that many will criticise her decision to venture into politics but added that it won’t deter her as she is determined to serve the people, particularly the youth. The public figure said that “amongst those who criticise me, there will be those who support my good intentions. Everything is for the people.”
Following her announcement, Baby Shima’s Instagram post was flooded with dividing comments from netizens. Unsurprisingly, many criticised her decision to compete in the elections and said it was unnecessary. However, some supporters commended her bravery, adding that they would cast a vote for her. There were also comments asking which state or constituency the dangdut is eyeing.
Interestingly, the singer was under fire last year for not voting in the general elections – but what do you think about Baby Shima’s announcement? Do you think she’s being serious or is this just another prank before she says, “gotcha!“
