Ever since the #MeToo movement has gone viral in Taiwan, many netizens have been standing up for themselves and sharing their traumatic stories. Even popular Taiwanese celebrities like TV host Mickey Huang (黃子佼) and artist Aaron Yan (炎亞綸) were caught up in this movement and have been exposed as sexual predators.
Recently, Taiwanese actress Big Tooth (大牙/周宜霈) gathered her courage and called out Charles “Blackie” Chen (陈建州) for sexually harassing her. Following this scandal which has become a hot topic of discussion, a netizen dug out a past video of the TV host forcing a kiss onto singer Selina Jen (任家萱) on a TV show, causing yet another wave of controversy.
Twenty-two years ago, Selina was invited to appear as a special guest on a TV show hosted by Blackie. In the TV show, there was a segment called “Shinkansen Kiss”. In short, someone will be seated on an elevated chair blindfolded, and whoever they drew through lots will be gliding towards them on a track. The purpose of the game is to press a button in time in order to stop the person gliding towards them from kissing them.
While seated on the chair, Selena drew lots and got Blackie. However, she failed to press the button in time and was forcibly kissed by Charles on the spot. In that short section, the TV host looked really satisfied, whereas Selina broke down and cried. She exclaimed with tears, “Why could I feel something like someone’s tongue?!”
After that program was broadcasted, the record company that Selina was under at that time lodged a serious protest against this matter. Fans of the songstress also said their piece by writing to the TV station. This became such a commotion back then that Blackie had to apologise to the singer on the show, only then did this die down.
As of the latest update, Blackie had denied accusations of attempted sexual assault by Big Tooth. However, the victim claimed that everything she has stated was facts and she believed that justice will prevail in the end. Hopefully, the truth will be revealed soon enough.
