Zende Restaurant at Seri Pacific Hotel Kuala Lumpur recently announced the launch of their Steamboat Buffet Dinner, offering an enticing array of delectable dishes that will captivate the taste buds of both locals and foreign tourists. We recently had the pleasure of trying out the buffet, which features an extensive range of poultry and fresh seafood options. Keep reading for our exclusive review!
Our first impression of the restaurant upon arrival was that it was spacious and comfortable. The space offered seating for groups of two, which is perfect for couples, as well as larger tables that hold up to 10 people.
The food options there were more than we expected, and we were presented with a long aisle of seafood, poultry, and classic steamboat ingredients for us to indulge in. For seafood, they offered fresh clams, scallops, shrimps, and even crabs. Of course, we didn’t hesitate to grab some for our steamboat feast. For poultry, they offered a variety of marinated beef, chicken, as well as lamb. When it came to raw meat, we had no reservations about cleanliness, as everything was stored in a clean and contained space, so bonus points for that! We obviously got a platter full of those to grill!
While the buffet offered a lot of fresh meat and seafood options for us to cook on the spot, they also provided us with ready-cooked dishes such as fried rice, fried mee and other fried food options. They even have a Kuay Teow Soup station where we could customize our own Kuay Teow Soup dish! This is great since we didn’t have to leave our stomachs empty while waiting for the steamboat and barbeque to cook.
When it came to the steamboat and cooking our ingredients, the restaurant provided two soup options: Tom Yam and Chinese Herbal Soup. Our table opted for the Herbal Soup, which tasted even better after we added the seafood. When it came to the grilling portion, our main concern was the ease of use. Since many BBQ outlets use charcoal grills, it can be hard to control the heat of the grill. But since this restaurant uses a portable stove, and a non-stick steamboat BBQ grill, we didn’t have to worry about burning the meat, or the meat sticking to the grill.
All of the meat dishes we tried were delicately seasoned and not too overpowering. Our favourite in particular were the Cajun chicken and Cajun beef. Tender, with amazing flavour, we went ahead and refilled our plates soon after we devoured the first helping. To enhance the overall experience, the restaurant also offered a variety of homemade sauces for us to create personalised combinations that perfectly complemented each of our chosen ingredients. Their house special garlic sauce in particular went super well with the seafood, giving them an extra zing of flavour.
While the highlight of the dinner was the steamboat and BBQ, the restaurant also offered a tantalizing array of desserts. From the classic red velvet cake to a colourful selection of Kuih, we were beyond impressed by the quality and taste of the treats. Our favourite was the Bread Pudding with Vanilla sauce. The bread pudding was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, topped off with a creamy vanilla sauce – definitely a match made in heaven! We finished off with some fresh watermelon and dragonfruit, ending the dinner on a sweet note.
Overall, we had a positive experience at Zende Restaurant and thought the buffet was great value for money. The service from the friendly wait staff was fantastic, as they were extremely helpful in describing the dishes and ensuring that we had a pleasant dining experience.
