They say that good things must come to an end. After news of bookstore Borders closing its doors, popular Japanese restaurant chain Sushi Tei suddenly announced they had ceased operations for their Malaysian outlets.
Through its official Facebook page, the restaurant informed customers that Sushi Tei Malaysia ceased operations on 19th June 2023. The post also stated that the Facebook page will no longer provide content or links related to Sushi Tei.
The restaurant first started operations in Singapore and expanded internationally to many countries, including Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia. In Malaysia alone, Sushi Tei had multiple outlets at various malls, including 3 Damansara Mall, Cheras Leisure Mall, The Gardens Mall, and Suria Sabah.
The restaurant did not provide any explanation as to why it suddenly ceased operations. Nevertheless, the news shocked many fans, who expressed sadness in the comment section. Some even commented that they wished they had known about the closure earlier so they could visit for one final meal.
However, there is still good news for fans, especially those in the Northern regions. In a Facebook post, Sushi Tei Penang announced that three outlets in Penang and Perak are unaffected by the closure.
The Facebook post state that the outlets at Gurney Plaza, Queensbay Mall and Ipoh Parade will continue to operate as usual. This means that fans of the restaurant chain can still dine in at these selected outlets.
We were also shocked by Sushi Tei’s sudden closure – but perhaps, this is just the beginning of a new chapter.
