You don’t necessarily need to watch a movie in order to dine in a theatre, especially when it’s a swanky casual restaurant. Located in The Gardens Mall’s Aurum Theatre, JIN Gastrobar is the perfect place for urban folks to wind down and chill while enjoying good food.
One of the highlights is, of course, the eye-catching Instagrammable passageway to the restaurant. Walking into the eatery is like entering a tunnel into a new land. This ‘tunnel’ gives off a classy vibe as creative posters of famous movies can be seen along the sides of the walls; it’s impossible to miss it.
As the name suggested, JIN Gastrobar is more of a bar serving alcohol and dishes ranging from mains and sharing platters to ala carte and desserts. To start off, the iced Yuri/ Matcha Latte has smooth taste, which we enjoyed. It was not overly sweet too. If you are a fan of a milder matcha drink, this drink is recommended. However, one thing to note is that the drink loses its matcha flavor as the ice melts overtime. So, it is suggested for you to order one with lesser ice.
For appetizers, there was a variety to choose from. Their Wild Mushroom Soup (RM15) was loaded with fresh mushrooms, and was not too strong in flavor. Alongside the slice of toasted baguette coated with a layer of rich butter, it is a great dish to warm your stomach for the dishes to come.
Before our mains were served, the aroma of the Trio of Fries (RM25) can be identified from a mile away. Crispy and well-seasoned, eating them individually or dipping it into their special sauce respectively tingles different taste buds.
The smoked paprika fries bring a kick of spiciness, the Cajun sweet potato fries were just the right amount of sweet with a creamy texture, and the parmesan, truffle oil, and rosemary fries were well-balanced to taste. This Trio of Fries would also make a perfect snack to accompany your movie experience.
With a stomach prepped from the delish appetizers served, the main courses did not disappoint. With a platter of three mini burgers on one plate, the Mini Wagyu Burgers (RM35) is certainly worth considering if you’re looking to share, or you can always have all three burgers to yourself. Although the patty was a tad dry, the toasted buns and fresh vegetables complement each other well.
Moving on to JIN Gastrobar’s Chargrilled Chicken (RM28). The juicy chicken had a strong pepper savor, and together with its smooth and buttery mash potatoes along with its crunchy roasted vegetables, each bite was a delight. We enjoyed pairing this with the Truffle Parmigiana Pasta (RM38). The creaminess and unique truffle flavor was a satisfying combo to go along with our chicken dish.
