Snake sightings are common here in Malaysia – and sometimes, they even pop up in unexpected places. However, seeing a giant snake slithering around in a public area will still shock people, especially if they’re as big as this one.
Shared through Twitter, a local woman, Yaya Azmi, said that a giant python was recently spotted in the residential area of Elmina Green in Shah Alam. In the video she shared, the giant python was slithering up a small hill. In the captions, the Twitter user said the video initially came from a WhatsApp group with the residents of Elmina Green.
In a follow-up tweet, the user reported that the Department of Wildlife and National Parks of Peninsular Malaysia (PERHILITAN) had caught the python but is unsure of the validity of the news. Another Elmina resident confirmed the python’s appearance, adding that even young children spotted the reptile.
After the tweet went viral, it racked up over 1.7 million views and thousands of comments from netizens. Many shared their disbelief at the size of the python, with some even asking if it was real or an Artificial Intelligence (AI) rendering. Some also hoped that the python was captured and released in a safe place rather than killed, adding that the area was originally a forest which could have been the reptile’s former habitat.
We are also shocked at the python’s enormous size, but we hope it gets transferred to a place where it’ll receive better treatment.
