Besides serving good food at a reasonable price, we’ve seen plenty of restaurant owners come up with attention-grabbing ways to stand out from the competition – including this nasi lemak stall, which found a simple yet brilliant way to keep the customers coming back.
The Tamparuli Nasi Lemak stall behind Aeon Mall in Section 13, Shah Alam recently went viral for giving their customers the star treatment – with the help of a red carpet. The 33-year-old stall owner, Mohd Ali Jainneh, came up with this unique idea after witnessing a Pahang laksa stall rolling out a black carpet to attract customers.
The owner explained, “It looks clean and eye-catching, so I used the idea for my business but added a little twist to it to also convey my gratitude and respect to my customers.” He added that the red carpet got many customers excited to line up and made the wait worthwhile.
According to the 33-year-old, he started his business 8 years ago in Sarawak and had recently branched out to Shah Alam, with the red carpet idea only being implemented just a few days ago. At first, the carpet only measured 6 meters but after attracting more customers, the owner decided to extend it to 20 meters so that more customers could experience standing on the red carpet.
The red carpet also helped drivers on the road be more aware of the customers waiting by the stall so they would be more careful when driving by. Besides the red carpet, the owner also added stools for customers to sit on while they wait for their orders and free drinks in case they get thirsty. Elderly, pregnant, and disabled customers can order through WhatsApp to avoid the long wait.
It’s always a delight to see owners come up with creative marketing tactics to grow their businesses – so kudos to Ali for his brilliant idea.
