Recently, a Nigerian man shared how traumatised he was after facing racism in Malaysia. Although some Caucasian tourists have faced some sort of prejudice in the country, most of them posted that they’ve actually enjoyed their stay here.
It has been proven that Malaysians tend to treat white foreigners differently than dark-skinned ones. To solidify this point, check out how the kindness of Malaysians brought this Australian man to tears.
Australian couple Jay and Jon, also known as Bucket List Travellers on YouTube, recently posted a vlog of their travels here in Malaysia. The content creators shared their experience of riding the country’s Jungle Train in Kelantan for the first time where they met a lot of kind-hearted locals that gave them a very warm welcome.
The YouTubers gave a tour around the train and provided a guide for their fellow travellers in case anyone wish to try this method of public transport themselves. During the ride, the Aussie man shared how friendly the people were, especially the school kids who wanted to practice their English with them. The duo also received snacks from a man who was handing out food on the train.
Toward the end of the video, Jay asked Jon for his opinion about the whole journey, to which he described as overwhelming. The tourist then got emotional as he expressed his gratitude for the Malaysian hospitality. “The people here are so, so lovely. They welcome you with open arms. I love this place,” he said. Jay shares the same sentiment as she revealed that this has been one of their best train travelling experiences in the world.
Many Malaysians commented on the video to thank the Bucket List Travellers for their kind words and expressed how glad they are to hear that the couple enjoyed their trip. Some claim that it’s in the locals’ blood and tradition to welcome guests with open arms as if they were family.
Do you agree with both the YouTubers’ and netizens’ statements? Whatever it is, we’re also glad to hear that the couple had a memorable experience in this part of Malaysia. Watch the full video below or skip to 7:26 to hear the couple’s thoughts:
