It’s time to put the pedal to the metal as “Gran Turismo: Based On A True Story” shifts into first gear. Ever since it debuted in 1997 for the original PlayStation, the video game franchise has since garnered millions of car fans and gamers worldwide. The question is – how does a studio adapt from a game that doesn’t have a narrative?
Well, the film is based on a real life professional Gran Turismo racer named Jann Mardenborouogh. Despite having zero experience in racing, the 19-year-old from took part in the 2011 GT Academy. He went on to beat 90,000 other participants and emerged as the tournament’s third and youngest champion.
“Gran Turismo: Based On A True Story” will not only follow the underdog story of Jann Mardenborouogh of he became a legitimate competitive racer, but also delve into his romantic life. Fun fact: The real-life race car driver will also be performing most of the stunt driving in this film. Archie Madekwe, who plays the character in question, quipped, “I think this is the first time ever where there is a film being made about someone’s life and they are stunt driving in the film.”
Joining Archie in the cast are David Harbour (the mentor and retired driver Jack Salter), Djimon Hounsou is Jann’s father, Steve Mardenborough, while Geri Halliwell plays his mother, and Daniel Puig as his brother. Other actors on this project include Orlando Bloom (a marketing executive) and Josha Stradowski (another rival driver).
