Films have been quite hit or miss in the past few years, and no amount of zeros in the budget can fix that. The industry is constantly in flux, and no one can anticipate the next big thing, similar to how no one anticipated the Dune movie to be a smashing success, and, as a result, fans are eager to see what comes next.
To make way for one of the biggest films of this year, IMAX has dedicated all of its screens to the sci-fi epic’s upcoming sequel, starring Timothée Chalamet. However, another film that is also set to be released in the same time frame is also vying for that spot: Marvel’s “The Marvels”, starring Brie Larson.
Aside from the ongoing writer’s strike, the clash between The Marvels and Dune has been the talk of the entire industry at the moment. With both being highly anticipated and having massive fan followings, many are excited to see their respective releases with the best cinematic experience possible. Unfortunately, fans of The Marvels might not get that unless Dune reorganises its schedule, as the latter film will be released sooner and occupy the theatres for longer.
Both movies have received a lot of attention and are expected to make a splash around November. Being the follow-ups to two hugely-popular movies, these two titans are anticipated to enthral audiences with their breathtaking visuals and compelling narratives.
Each studio only wants what is best for their film, and that is to secure the big screens, which IMAX readily provides. However, it’s been confirmed that IMAX has committed itself to Dune 2 for five to six weeks.
“There’s another great movie coming out around that time, which is The Marvels from Marvel, and we can’t play it because we are committed to Dune. So, if Dune moves, we’ll just go over to The Marvels, and having a Marvel movie as a backup is not the worst position to (have) in the world.” – IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond
