Every driver has their preference when fueling up – and likely an opinion on which petrol station is the best. However, a tweet recently went viral and it got netizens discussing if certain petrol stations are selling less fuel for more.
The discourse started with a woman sharing her opinion about fueling up at Petron versus Petronas. According to her, the former would give her about 14L of fuel for RM50, while the latter would only give 13L for the same amount. This tweet was in response to a video of another woman saying that a full tank of Shell’s petrol fuel lasts longer when compared to a full tank of Petronas fuel.
The tweet garnered a lot of attention as well as raised a lot of questions. Many backed up the claim, saying that they would also fuel up at Petron or Shell as these petrol stations would provide more value while keeping Petronas as their last option for petrol stations. Some shared that Caltex is also a good choice, adding their experience as an example. Some users chimed in, saying they only continued using Petronas as it is the only station that offers the Setel payment system.
However, not everyone agrees with the claims, even debunking the myth that the amount of fuel would differ between brands. A few users also added that fuel consumption depends on various factors – like speed, tyre traction and the load in the vehicle. There were also comments that different fuels contain different additives to achieve specific driving needs, so they might not be suitable for every car.Â
The tweet also got some people calling it a smear campaign on Petronas – but what do you think? Do you notice a difference when fueling at different stations? Or is the original tweet stretching the truth?
