KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained 15 men for the unauthorized sale of PETRONAS diesel fuel after conducting raids in six different states.
The Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director, Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, stated that the operation was carried out following an internal investigation conducted by PETRONAS, as well as intelligence gathering by the police.
The suspects, whose ages range from 29 to 52, were apprehended during these raids.
“In addition to this, we also seized various items, including 16 mobile phones, 17 sets of documents, gasoline gauging paste, two fuel gauges, two laptops, and 16 SIM cards.
“The raids took place in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
“The suspects have been placed under a seven-day remand for further investigation,” he stated in a press release on Thursday (Aug 24).
According to Comm Ramli, investigations revealed that this syndicate had been operating since 2021 and had caused PETRONAS losses amounting to RM13.5mil.
“This syndicate comprises individuals from the shipping industry.
“We believe that they were unlawfully selling diesel fuel, originally meant for marine vessels, to other buyers. The pricing ranged from RM1.80 to RM1.98 per liter,” he added.
“We are conducting an extensive investigation to uncover the full extent of the syndicate and its illegal activities,” he stated.
