IPOH: A sinkhole has appeared at KM4.2 of FT240 or Jalan Jelapang-Ampang opposite Gunung Matsoorat here, causing concern among residents and authorities.

Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, the chairman of Perak infrastructure committee, stated that the Public Works Department received reports of the sinkhole on Friday morning. Immediate action is being taken to repair the hole, with completion expected on the same day.

“For safety purposes, we have temporarily closed one lane near the sinkhole,” Mohammad Nizar said, urging motorists to follow the instructions of traffic controllers and signboards placed in the area.

Hamdan Ali, the director of Perak Public Works Department, mentioned that the sinkhole was first noticed on Thursday night but was initially patched up temporarily. However, it resurfaced on Friday morning, prompting further repair efforts.

The sinkhole measures approximately 1.2 square meters in size and is about 2.4 meters deep, according to Ali. The concessionaire responsible for the area is working to complete the repair works by 5 PM on Friday.
