A hostel of a tahfiz school in Kampung Medan, Teluk Panglima Garang, near Shah Alam, was engulfed in flames early Monday morning, leaving 70% of the building destroyed. The hostel, which accommodated 20 male students aged between 13 and 17 years old, managed to evacuate all occupants safely before the fire spread.

Upon receiving the report at 12:03 am on Monday, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail swiftly dispatched a team of 18 firefighters to combat the inferno. The fire was fully extinguished by 12:54 am, and fortunately, there were no reports of injuries.

Tahfiz schools are Islamic religious institutions that focus on memorizing the Quran. They provide religious education to students who wish to deepen their understanding of Islam.

Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the damage to determine the necessary measures for rebuilding the hostel. The incident serves as a reminder for schools and other public buildings to ensure their fire safety measures are up to standard to prevent future tragedies.
