The state of Melaka has successfully collected 26,000kg of recyclable waste through six “Singgit Seposen” programs since 2021. A total payment of RM13,000 was made to the participants.

Perbadanan Teknologi Hijau Melaka (PTHM) CEO, Ismail Hashim, stated that 7,000kg of recyclable waste was collected through two programs this year, with a total payment of RM4,000.

The program enables the purchase of seven types of recyclable waste, including cooking oil, fabric, electronics, aluminum cans, glass bottles, paper, and plastic bottles. The prices range from 10sen to RM2.50 per kg, depending on the waste category.

Ismail Hashim expressed his satisfaction with the encouraging response from consumers, indicating a greater awareness of recycling. The “Singgit Seposen” program provides an accessible way for consumers to dispose of recyclable waste and earn income while contributing to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

Various stakeholders are involved in the program, including neighboring communities, local communities, state and private government agencies, higher education institutions, and schools.

The program receives allocations from the state government to support green technology initiatives in Melaka.

Datuk Kalsom Nordin, the Pengkalan Batu assemblyman, announced plans to expand and increase the frequency of the program in order to manage recyclable waste more efficiently. This is crucial to prevent waste from being disposed of in rivers and drains, which can lead to problems like floods and pollution.

In addition to waste collection, Nordin also emphasized the importance of organizing talks during the “Singgit Seposen” program to enhance community awareness of recycling and environmental protection.
