The state director of Immigration, Kennith Tan Ai Kiang, has announced that 28 foreigners have been detained for violating various regulations and entering the country illegally. The arrests were made in operations conducted in Nilai, Kuala Pilah, and Seremban on October 17 and 18. Tan stated that the inspections took place in 12 premises located in the three areas, such as residential areas, shoplots, mini markets, and houses under renovation.
In addition to conducting their own surveillance, the operations were carried out based on public feedback. A total of 122 foreigners were checked by the officers. Out of the 28 detained individuals, five were women. The breakdown of the detained foreigners is as follows: 11 were from Bangladesh, five from Indonesia, five from Myanmar, one from India, and one from Pakistan. The women who were detained were all Myanmar nationals. Subsequently, the detained individuals were taken to the Immigration depot in Lenggeng for further proceedings.
Tan mentioned that the cases are being investigated under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying and Section 6(1)(c) of the same legislation for entering the country illegally. Some individuals are also being probed under rule 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for misusing their social visit passes.
