KUALA LUMPUR: Police are currently searching for three inmates who escaped from the Serendah Rehabilitation Centre in Hulu Selangor on Friday (Aug 4).
The escapees consist of two individuals from Asrama Al-Azim and one from Asrama Al-Hamzah, with ages ranging between 44 and 55.
According to Supt Ahmad Faizal Tahrim, the District Police Chief of Hulu Selangor, the trio was absent during the morning assembly and left the facility without permission from the head.
It is believed that the inmates climbed over a high barbed wire fence after Subuh prayer to make their escape.
“We are currently conducting a manhunt for them. Their names have been blacklisted until they are caught,” stated Ahmad Faizal in a press statement on Saturday.
Investigations have revealed that the escaped inmates were enrolled in rehabilitation programs at the centre.
“The police have initiated an investigation under Section 224 of the Penal Code,” Ahmad Faizal added.
He also urged anyone with information to contact the Hulu Selangor district police headquarters at 03-6064 1132 or the investigating officer, Inspector Siti Zulaikha Mohamed, at 03-6064 1222, as well as any nearby police station. – Bernama
