    JOHOR BARU: Johor traffic police have carried out a special two-day traffic operation, which led to the arrest of 35 individuals for various road violations, including driving under the influence of alcohol.

    Johor police chief Comm M. Kumar said the operation, which focused on drunk driving, was carried out throughout the state on Saturday (June 29) and Sunday (June 30).

    “The operation resulted in the arrest of 35 individuals, including two females, aged 16 to 60. 32 suspects were detained under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving a vehicle with an alcohol level over the allowed limit,” he said in a statement here on Sunday (June 30).

    Comm Kumar added that police also detained three local males under Section 42(1) of the same Act for driving dangerously and seized one car and 10 motorcycles under Section 64 of the same Act.

    He said that in the same operation, 1,417 individuals and 1,302 vehicles were inspected, and 481 summonses were issued for various traffic offences.

    “Within the first six months of this year, 267 arrests have been made involving 260 locals and seven foreigners. Of those arrested, 259 were males, while eight were females.

    “Some 11,904 individuals and 10,530 vehicles have been inspected while 1,343 traffic summonses have also been issued in the same period,” he said, adding that some 76 individuals have been charged in court for traffic violations so far.

    Comm Kumar also said Johor police would continue to carry out operations and would not compromise with any individuals found trying to challenge the law.

    “We urge the public to always adhere to the country’s law to avoid any difficulties in ensuring public safety and order will be preserved,” he added.
