NEW DELHI, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) — A tragic incident occurred on Saturday during a concert at Cochin University of Science And Technology (CUSAT) in Ernakulam district of Kerala, resulting in the deaths of at least four students and the injury of many others. The campus is located approximately 223 km north of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala.

Veena George, the local health minister, confirmed the fatalities, stating, “Four people were found dead and many others got injured in the rush at Ernakulam CUSAT.” The injured students have been hospitalized for treatment.

The concert, which featured singer Nikhita Gandhi, was part of a tech festival that was being held at an open-air auditorium on the campus. Reports indicated that entry to the concert was restricted to those holding passes, but the situation turned chaotic when rain started pouring down. With nowhere else to seek shelter, a mass of people who were waiting outside rushed into the auditorium, resulting in the stampede.

The tragic incident has caused shock and grief among the community, and the university is likely to reassess its safety protocols for future events.
