KUALA LUMPUR: Since stalking was criminalised, a total of 50 police reports have been lodged within a year, says Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

“The first prosecution for this offence was made in August 2023,” the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) said in a parliamentary written reply dated July 10.

The amendments to the Penal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) that made stalking an offence came into effect on May 31, 2023.

As for statistics of perpetrators based on gender, 43 were men, four were women and three whose genders could not be identified.

“As for the breakdown based on age, 30 were aged 18 and above and the ages of the other 20 were unknown. There are no cases reported involving perpetrators under the age of 18,” she said.

However, she said there had been cases where the age and gender of person could not be identified as the stalking was done online.

A total of four sexual harassment cases have brought to the anti-sexual harassment tribunal as of June 8.

This comes following the enforcement of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act 2022 on March 8.

For all four cases, the perpetrators were men aged above 18.

The first hearing of the tribunal was held on May 23.
