IPOH: The Perak Immigration Department has arrested 65 undocumented migrants and three local employers during a raid on 10 Thai restaurants in the city centre.

Perak Immigration director Meor Hezbullah Meor Abdul Malik said the arrests were made during Ops Bersama from 9.30pm to 11.30pm on Monday (July 29).

The detainees included 38 Thai men, 21 Thai women and three toddlers, ranging in age from two years to 51.

“All the (foreign) detainees will be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having valid passes to be in the country.

“They will also be investigated under Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act for overstaying and Rule 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations for violating visit pass conditions,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 30).

The three locals held were two men and a woman aged between 25 and 45.

Meor Hezbullah said they would be investigated under Section 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act for harbouring undocumented foreigners.

If convicted, offenders can face fines ranging from RM10,000 to RM50,000 for each harboured individual or imprisonment from six months to five years.

“Stern action will be taken against employers or individuals who employ or shelter undocumented migrants, including prosecution in court,” Meor Hezbullah added.
