MERSING: Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has stated that around 70% of the damaged federal roads in Johor, including the FT03 (Mersing-Kota Tinggi-Johor Bahru) route, have been repaired. The Johor Mentri Besar also mentioned that the remaining maintenance and upgrading works will be completed this year to ensure the safety of road users.

The Mentri Besar expressed his satisfaction with the significant improvement in the federal roads after the maintenance works, particularly on the FT03 route from Kota Tinggi to Mersing. He also highlighted that maintenance works are ongoing on other federal roads, including FT01 (Muar-Yong Peng-Johor Bahru) and FT05 (Muar-Batu Pahat-Pontian-Johor Bahru).

Onn Hafiz made these remarks while speaking to reporters after visiting the Tenggaroh R&R project in Mersing on Sunday (Jan 7). He disclosed that the RM8.2mil project, located along the main route to the east coast, will be divided into three phases for approval and is expected to be completed by the end of next year.

The project is expected to serve as a pitstop for heavy vehicle drivers and will also feature petrol stations with electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities, according to Onn Hafiz. He further advised Johoreans to prioritize their safety and adhere to instructions issued by the authorities given the uncertain weather conditions in the state.

Earlier, the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (PRABN) under the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, predicted that Kulai, Johor Baru, and Pontian would be hit by floods in stages until 5pm on Sunday due to the continuous heavy rain warning issued by the Malaysian Meteorology Department.- Bernama
