In the All-England tournament held on Tuesday (March 12), men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and mixed doubles pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing secured their spots in the second round of the competition. Aaron and Wooi Yik defeated their teammates Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani with a score of 21-19, 21-17 at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham, moving on to face Taiwan’s Chang Ko-chi-Po Li-wei for a chance to advance to the quarter-finals.
Unfortunately, the journey ended for independent pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi as they put up a tough fight but ultimately lost 21-15, 21-23, 14-21 to China’s world No. 8 Liu Yuchen-Ou Xuanyi. On the other hand, world No. 25 Kian Meng and Pei Jing staged a comeback to surprise world No. 13 Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue from France with a score of 12-21, 21-19, 21-14 in their first-round match.
Kian Meng and Pei Jing are now set to compete against either Hong Kong’s world No. 8 Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet or Indonesia’s world No. 16 Rehan Naufal-Lisa Ayu in the upcoming round. The competition is heating up as players strive to advance further in the prestigious tournament.
