The Fire and Rescue Department has successfully extinguished a forest fire near the Sebana Cove-Punggai bypass in Kota Tinggi. The fire started on Sunday (Oct 15) at 2.57pm, according to Kota Tinggi Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Khairul Sufian Dahari.

On Tuesday (Oct 17), the firefighting team divided the area into five sectors to conduct total flooding from a nearby water source. As part of their efforts, the department also used an AW139 helicopter from the Bertam Air Station, along with seven crew members, to conduct water bombing. The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) deployed their amphibious Bombardier CL415MP aircraft from the Subang Airport for the same purpose.

Both aircraft carried out a total of 44 water drops, successfully extinguishing a total of 23 hectares of the forest fire. However, there are still 9 hectares of forest fire that need to be dealt with, and the operation is still ongoing.
