The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah was overcome with emotion during the State Banquet ceremony marking the end of his reign on Saturday night (Jan 27).
In his Royal Address, Al-Sultan Abdullah expressed his deep gratitude to all Malaysians who accepted him and Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah as King and Queen.
Al-Sultan Abdullah announced during the ceremony that it was time for him and Raja Permaisuri Agong to step down, expressing mixed feelings of sadness, happiness, and gratitude as he left for Pahang.
He did not feel it was his place to evaluate his success, leaving that judgment to history.
In his final message, Al-Sultan Abdullah called on Malaysians to earnestly maintain unity and the spirit of community.
He expressed thanks to Allah SWT for the blessings, well-being, and glory that had been bestowed upon him.
He also hoped that Malaysians would continue to show unwavering loyalty to the new King and Queen.
Tunku Azizah was also emotional as Al-Sultan Abdullah expressed his special appreciation for her.
He praised her for always being by his side during their visits across the country and for capturing the hearts of Malaysians over the past five years.
The State Banquet was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. – Bernama
