KUALA LUMPUR: Last year, Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) provided a total of RM2.6bil in funding to entrepreneurs, as reported by Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Deputy Minister Datuk R. Ramanan.
Ramanan emphasized that the funding was a government initiative designed to help entrepreneurs enhance their living standards and eliminate poverty.
“In Malaysia, there are abundant opportunities for entrepreneurs, and I am extremely proud of AIM’s achievements. I hope that the Prime Minister will offer more support to AIM,” he stated during a press conference following a working visit to the AIM headquarters on Jan 29.
Datuk Seri Syed Hussian Syed Junid, Chairman of AIM’s Board of Trustees, and AIM Managing Director Mohamed Shamir Abdul Aziz, were also present at the press conference.
On the other hand, Mohamed Shamir indicated that AIM aims to involve 340,000 AIM-registered Sahabat Usahawan or micro-entrepreneurs this year, compared to 320,000 in 2023.
“Last year, we provided RM2.6bil in funding, and this year there is a slight increase of RM100mil based on the Prime Minister’s announcement in the 2024 Budget, bringing the total for this year to RM2.61bil,” he explained.
During the visit, Ramanan also took part in the Madani Gathering with AIM Indian Entrepreneurs, which took place at the AIM headquarters compound, as reported by Bernama.
