According to a statement released on Friday (Jan 19), AirAsia will be increasing the frequency of its Jakarta-Kuching route from three times a week to daily flights starting from Feb 8. This step is aimed at providing more convenient travel options at affordable fares for people to travel between Jakarta and Kuching for leisure or business.
AirAsia stated that the added frequency comes at an opportune time and is a significant milestone in the recovery of the tourism industry for both countries. The Jakarta-Kuching route has been operated by AirAsia Indonesia since its launch on June 15 last year. The carrier mentioned that the route has been successful in bringing the two regions together and creating opportunities for tourism, trade, and mutual growth.
In addition, the connection from Kuching to Jakarta is seen as a precursor to wider connectivity from Sarawak to other parts of Indonesia, particularly with the establishment of the country’s new administrative capital Nusantara in east Kalimantan. The statement also mentioned that seats are now available for booking at prices starting from 689,000 rupiah (RM208) for flights departing from Jakarta and RM149 from Kuching.
