LONDON, July 16 (Xinhua) — Carlos Alcaraz of Spain ended Novak Djokovic’s quest to win a historic 24th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon on Sunday. The 20-year-old fought back from being one set down to defeat the Serbian 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 and claim his second major trophy.
The reigning champion of the US Open, who had previously lost to Djokovic in the semifinals of Roland Garros, reached his second Grand Slam final. Meanwhile, the 36-year-old Serbian made his record 35th appearance in a Grand Slam final.
Both players demonstrated their versatile skills and mental toughness throughout the intense battle that lasted four hours and 42 minutes. Ultimately, it was Alcaraz who displayed better composure in the decisive moments, securing the victory with an early break in the third game.
