SEREMBAN: DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke (pic) has echoed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement requiring that no party logos be featured in the extension of government aid.
Loke emphasized that when it involves government allocations, only one logo is permitted, the Coat of Arms of Malaysia.
He further explained that he has always adhered to this practice by using replica cheques displaying only the coat of arms due to the government allocations involved.
Loke stated that the Prime Minister’s comment is appropriate and should be followed by all parties.
After presenting a cheque totaling RM324,668 as an allocation under Projek Mesra Rakyat (PMR) to the Parent-Teacher Association of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Dato’ Sheikh Ahmad here, Loke expressed his views to the press.
On Friday (Aug 25), Anwar made it clear that party logos should not be utilized on any form of government aid presented to the people.
Regarding the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram state by-elections in Johor, Loke voiced his confidence in the ability of Pakatan Harapan, in collaboration with Barisan Nasional, to retain both seats.
He stated that these two seats are mixed seats, giving Pakatan the advantage, and that they are receiving support from Johor Umno, which is known as Umno’s stronghold. Loke expressed confidence that with Umno’s assistance, they will successfully defend the seats.
The by-elections were prompted by the passing of Amanah deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub on July 23, and will involve three-cornered fights between Pakatan, Perikatan Nasional, and independent candidates.
The Election Commission has scheduled early voting for Sept 5 and the by-elections for Sept 9.
