According to the Florida investigators, an Amazon delivery driver took a woman’s French bulldog, worth US$4,000 (approximately RM18,894), after the dog followed him. The incident took place in Spring Hill on Dec 23, and it took nearly a month for the detectives to find the dog 50 miles away in Tampa, as stated in a news release by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office on Jan 25.
The dog’s owner explained to deputies that she had let her French bulldog, Kali, out around 9.15 am, and later found out that Kali had escaped from the fenced-in backyard. A neighbour reported seeing Kali approaching a man wearing an Amazon uniform, who had just made a delivery to an address on Copper Hill Drive.
Reports from witnesses revealed that the one-year-old dog started following the man’s vehicle, causing the driver to stop and pick up the dog from the road. The driver then drove off with the dog in the backseat, according to officials.
On Jan 16, detectives successfully identified the suspect and located him at a home in Tampa. During the interview, the man admitted to taking the dog and confirmed that she was still in his possession. Kali was later found in a nearby residence and returned to her owner on the same day.
No details about the motive behind the theft have been disclosed by investigators. The 34-year-old suspect has been charged with grand theft and was released from the Hillsborough County jail after posting a US$5,000 (RM23,617) bond, as per the officials. – The Charlotte Observer/Tribune News Service
