JAKARTA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the need for a regional financial system that tackles global economic uncertainties and financial risks while improving regional economic independence and safety nets. He made these remarks during the 26th Asean Plus Three Summit meeting on Wednesday, September 6.
Additionally, Anwar highlighted concerns regarding food security and called for enhanced cooperation in smart agriculture, particularly focusing on smallholders. He urged for collaboration with China, Japan, and South Korea in the development of renewable energy, biodiversity assets, and the application of agri-technology.
Anwar welcomed the adoption of the Asean Plus Three Leaders’ Statement on Developing the Electric Vehicle Ecosystem, showcasing his support for initiatives in this sector.
Significantly, the meeting was attended by China’s Premier Li Qiang, Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol. The gathering was chaired by Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
Anwar led the Malaysian delegation at the 43rd Asean Summit, which concludes on Thursday, September 7. This summit marks Anwar’s first participation with the seven Asean Dialogue Partners, including Australia, China, Japan, India, South Korea, the United States, and Canada. – Bernama
