PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is refuting claims that the unity government is not taking a strong stance against corruption, in response to the Pardons Board’s decision to reduce former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s prison sentence and fine. He stated on Monday (Feb 5), “The issue being raised here is that allegedly, we are being lax on corruption issues, (now) this is untrue.”

He also mentioned that the judicial process would continue and clarified that at no point did Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi give him an ultimatum regarding Najib’s pardon. Anwar added, “He (Najib) or his party has the right to have the Prime Minister and the Pardons Board consider it,” during a gathering with staff of the Prime Minister’s Department on Monday.
