    BUKIT MERTAJAM: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today spent time enjoying lunch with the people at Kedai Tok, Simpang Tiga Kubang Semang, here.

    The Prime Minister who arrived at 12.40pm heartily ate nasi kandar which is the main menu at the stall.

    Also accompanying him were Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Human Resources Minister Steven Sim and Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad.

    Anwar who wore a light blue baju Melayu spent about 30 minutes and mingled with visitors who were treated to a free lunch.

    Kedai Tok employee Mohd Nazri Abd Rahman said gulai ikan and fried chicken were the special dishes served to the Prime Minister’s entourage.

    After lunch, Anwar then performed Friday prayers at Kubang Semang Mosque with the mosque congregants.

    Earlier, Anwar paid a visit to Bukit Mertajam Hospital including the children’s ward and the computerized tomography scanner (CT Scan) examination room that the hospital received recently.

    Later a visit to a residence, brought back childhood memories to the Prime Minister as it used to be the staff quarters that he and his family lived in from 1955 to 1959, before moving to Cherok Tok Kun.

    His late father Ibrahim Abdul Rahman at that time was working as an assistant medical officer at Bukit Mertajam Hospital.

    Anwar has a busy schedule in Penang before returning to Putrajaya to deliver the National Day Prime Minister’s Message at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) at 4.30pm today. – Bernama
