KOTA KINABALU: A new initiative has been launched to create a mass movement against fraudulent activities and the leakage of controlled and subsidised goods.

The “Kita Gempur” initiative, launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is to combat unethical business practices.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the initiative would focus on combating online business fraud, tackle monopolistic practices and address cartel behaviour such as price-fixing and market manipulation.

“We aim to empower consumers and enhance enforcement measures while ensuring that businesses adhere to ethical practices,” he said during the Madani Rakyat 2024, Sayangi Sabah programme at the Likas Sports Complex here on Saturday (Oct 19).

To facilitate the initiative, the ministry has established a dedicated reporting platform accessible via a QR code, allowing the public to report misconduct through various channels, including WhatsApp and a 24-hour hotline.

The public is encouraged to share their reports via WhatsApp (019-848 8000), 24-hour hotline (03-8882 6088/6245), or the #HapusKartel complaint channel managed by MyCC at www.mycc.gov.my/e-aduan.

Armizan added that the ministry plans to set up focal points in supermarkets, business premises, and petrol stations throughout Malaysia, where the Kita Gempur QR code will be prominently displayed.

This will make it easier for citizens to report any wrongdoing directly and efficiently.

“Establishment these reporting points will enhance collaboration between the community and enforcement agencies, ensuring that every complaint is addressed swiftly and effectively,” he said.

With the launch of Kita Gempur, the government is determined to involve all Malaysians in the fight against manipulation and economic fraud, inviting citizens to actively participate in the initiative to safeguard their rights and welfare.

The ministry encouraged the public to rally behind the Kita Gempur initiative and foster a collective effort to eradicate activities that undermine the interests of the nation and its people.

In another sideline programme, Anwar also presented land titles to the Sabah Native Land Services Programme (Pantas) recipients, while Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced that the Sabah government will build some 3,000 Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya next year, costing around RM250mil.
