SHAH ALAM: The current mentris besar and chief ministers of the three states governed by Pakatan Harapan have been announced as the coalition’s candidates for the top positions in the state governments, according to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Speaking at Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s candidate announcement on Saturday (July 22), the Prime Minister stated that Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari will remain as the mentri besar candidate for Selangor, while Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun will be the candidate for Negri Sembilan.
Anwar said that the decision was made based on the leaders’ performance and accessibility to the people. He described Amirudin as one of the country’s most successful mentri besars.
In addition, DAP’s Chow Kon Yeow will be the chief minister candidate for Penang. Anwar welcomed the decision and praised Chow’s performance.
Regarding Aminuddin, Anwar mentioned that discussions took some time to reach a decision. However, the coalition agreed that continuity in the state government was necessary.
Anwar also revealed that Pakatan had informed Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi of their decision. He emphasized that PKR’s strength lies not only in him and the top leadership, but also in the strength of the state leadership.
The nomination day for the six state polls is set for July 29, with polling scheduled for August 12. This marks the first time Pakatan is cooperating with Barisan as part of a unity pact. Barisan is contesting a total of 108 seats.
